Dan Vickerman the former Australia lock dies at the age of 37


Just read the sad news of the death of Dan at the age of 37, only two weeks after the passing of his fellow South African, Joost.

Dan was born in Capetown, where he played youth rugby before heading to England to play for Cheltenham.  Taking a year out to visit and play rugby in Australia, he decided to stay and was quickly representing Australia at U21 level.

He had a distinguished career with the Brumbies and Waratahs in Super Rugby, came back to England to play for Northampton and captain a successful Cambridge side in the varsity match.

Dan played in 3 World Cups for Australia, won the 50th of his 63 caps against Wales, and was in the side that beat Wales to third place in the 2011 World Cup.

The reason for his death has yet to be announced.

RIP Dan, the rugby world has lost another legend of the game.
