Pancake Day, Mardi Gras, Split and more music treats

Today is Shrove Tuesday, or to the uninitiated, Pancake Day. And for those who really like to party Mardi Gras! So however you celebrate the day before Lent, be it Fat Tuesday or some delicious homemade pancakes, enjoy!!!!!

Well I have started the day well with a nice cup of coffee and pancakes dripping in honey 🙂

Today is my mate John’s birthday, well it’s not really today as he was born on the 29th February, so we always celebrate it on the last day of Feb, because if we celebrated on 1 March it would clash with St David’s day and we can’t be having that!!!!! I’ve arranged a family and friend meal this evening so really looking forward to that 🙂

Onto Split………… last night I finally managed to watch Shyamalan’s movie starring James McAvoy as Kevin Crumb the guy with 23 split personalities.  McAvoy’s performance as all his characters was excellent and the movie had the feel of Hitchcock with all it’s twists and turns…. I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t seen it yet, but only to say that I was surprised by the end with the returning David Dunn from Shyamalan’s previous movie Unbreakable, so a third installment is definitely on the cards.

I can understand the fuss over the movie’s content portraying mental illness in the way it does, with Kevin’s dissociative identity disorder. Most of the criticism centred around the false stereotypical notion that people living with complex mental illnesses are inherently dangerous and violent.  I can see this point of view but it’s a movie there to ‘entertain’ us and of course all characters are exaggerated to heighten the tension and keep us second guessing in the true Hitchcock style.  Anyways, highly recommended by me, catch it if you can.

Finally on to today’s musical treats and some more I’m selling on Ebay.

Another Joni Mitchell album, this one is Ladies of the Canyon, I’ve always liked my mums choice of Joni, the lyrics are deep and meaningful and she sings so beautifully.  This one is Rainy Night House as having suffered Storm Doris last week, Storm Ewan has hit us today and it’s the proverbial cats and dogs here!!!!

Next up is Sting’s rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s Little Wing from the album Nothing Like the Sun…

Finally a very blast from the past, I remember buying this!  I’m a big fan of the late Stuart Adamson and Big Country and this is from the compilation album The Best of the Skids, his earlier band that had  success in the late 70’s punk era.

Work to be done…………have a great day!
