St David’s Day

Bore da a hapus Dydd Gŵyl Dewi, good morning and a happy St David’s Day to you all.

Today sees hundreds of celebrations across Wales and the world to mark our patron saint.

The Senedd in Cardiff, the seat  of the Welsh Government, is lit up in the colours of the Welsh flag and hosts various cultural events including our infamous choirs, oh yes, us Welsh love to sing.

The Welsh dragon flies high above Downing Street as the PM also hosts a reception to highlight Welsh achievements and the part Wales has played in the success of Britain.

Wales’ first female bishop, Bishop of St Davids Joanna Penberthy will deliver the annual St David’s Day message.

Google has also marked the day with a doodle of a traditional Welsh lovespoon created by Welsh artist Matt Jones. There’s nothing quite like the lovespoons in any other country.

I have an opticians appointment first, but straight after I will be joining in the celebrations.

I still remember the very first Welsh poem I had to recite in our school eisteddfod:

Nant y Mynydd

groyw loyw

Yn ymdroelli

tua’r pant

Rhwng y brwyn

yn sisial ganu

O na bawn i

fel y nant

Have a wonderful St David’s Day
